GENERAL MANAGER – GOLD UNDERGROUND MINE

Position Overview
The General Manager will oversee all aspects of the operations at a gold underground mine in West Africa. This leadership role requires a strategic and results-oriented individual with extensive experience in underground mining, particularly in gold operations. The GM will ensure that safety, production, cost control, and operational efficiency align with the company’s strategic objectives while adhering to local regulations and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Leadership
   • Oversee daily operations, including drilling, blasting, ore extraction, and transportation.
   • Develop and implement production plans to meet output targets.
   • Optimize processes for maximum efficiency and profitability.
2. Safety and Compliance
   • Champion a culture of safety across all mining activities.
   • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international mining regulations.
   • Implement and maintain safety protocols and emergency response plans.
3. Financial Management
   • Prepare and manage the operational budget to control costs while maintaining high safety and production standards.
   • Monitor financial performance and ensure achievement of revenue targets.
4. Team Development
   • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team.
   • Promote employee engagement through training programs and professional development initiatives.
   • Develop leadership succession plans within the organization.
5. Stakeholder Engagement
   • Liaise with local communities, government authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
   • Provide regular reports to senior management on key metrics, including safety, production, financials, and compliance.
6. Strategic Planning
   • Identify opportunities for process improvements and technological advancements.
   • Contribute to long-term strategic planning for the mine’s development and sustainability.

Profil

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in underground mining operations, with at least 5 years in senior management roles.
  
• Proven track record in managing large-scale underground gold mining projects.
  
• Strong knowledge of underground mining equipment, processes, and technologies.
  
• Experience in budget management and achieving financial targets.
  
• Familiarity with West African mining regulations is highly desirable.
