The Occupational Health and Safety manager responsible to manage Project health and safety aspects of the Project
Position Objectives:
- To ensure all aspects of the construction Project complies with Company health and safety management plan and legal requirements. Will also be responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace.
- As a safety manager you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential.
Direct Reports
- All health and safety professionals employed by the compagny on the Project.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute and regularly review health and safety plans in the workplace according to Project and legal requirements
- Lead a positive safety site culture
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
- Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the project safety management plan and regulatory requirements
- Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
- Monitor compliance to safety management plan, policies and laws
- Ensure that all equipment and machinery are fit to work on site and are inspected to ensure they meet requirements of the Safety management plan and legal requirements
- Investigate all accidents or incidents. Prepare finding and mitigation strategies to eliminate further incidents
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports for the Project Director. These are to include
o Lead indicators
o Lag indicators
o Current safety statistics
o Highlight of all incidents and or accidents that occurred during the period.
o Manhours worked during the period
o Initiative to improve all Occupational, safety and Health Project Outcomes
- Liaise with site-based contractors on all health and safety matters
- Coordinate and manage Safety team
- Input into monthly and other reports as requested
- Work collaborative with other site management team
- Prepare HSE reports monthly and weekly HSE flash reports
Profil
Requirements and Skills
- Proven experience as safety manager on other mining projects
- Deep understanding of legal health and safety guideline
- Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
- Good knowledge of risk assessment
- Excellent organisational and motivational skills
- Attention to detail and observation ability
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to speak both French and English is preferred
- BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred
- Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
