Principal Job Objectives:
The Metallurgy Surintendent is responsible for the metallurgical performance of the processing plant. He ensures the optimization of processes to maximize gold recovery while minimizing operating costs. The role involves overseeing metallurgical testing, continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Process Optimization

  • Ensure the metallurgical performance of the processing plant, meet and exceed gold recovery targets.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize metallurgical processes (crushing, grinding, leaching, adsorption, elution, electrowinning, refining).
  • Analyze process performance and recommend adjustments to improve recovery and minimize losses.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track plant efficiency.
  • Oversee the management of reagents and consumables (cyanide, lime, activated carbon, etc.) to ensure cost-effective use.

Metallurgical Testing and Continuous Improvement

  • Supervise metallurgical test programs to optimize processes and evaluate new technologies.
  • Analyze test results and propose improvements to maximize gold extraction.
  • Participate in innovation and modernization initiatives to improve plant performance.
  • Develop recommendations for optimizing operating parameters based on ore characteristics.
  • Conduct regular audits to assess the efficiency of the treatment circuit and recommend process adjustments.
  • Manages the assays lab and assay lab contract.

Operational Management and Team Support

  • Manage the assay laboratory and contract.
  • Work closely with maintenance, geology, and mining operations teams to ensure an optimal ore supply.
  • Provide technical support to plant operators and engineers to improve process stability and efficiency.
  • Ensure the application of best practices in metallurgical control and production flow management.
  • Assist in the commissioning and monitoring of metallurgical equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Safety, Environment, and Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, hygiene, and environmental standards in metallurgical operations.
  • Guarantee the implementation of procedures for tailings management and effluent treatment.
  • Support the development and monitoring of plans to reduce the plant’s environmental footprint.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by training and raising awareness among teams on best practices.

Reporting and Cost Management

  • Monitor metallurgical operating costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Prepare technical and financial reports for management on metallurgical performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain rigorous tracking of materials and consumables inventory.

Profil

Knowledge / Skills & Competencies:
  • Proficiency in metallurgical modeling and analysis software.
  • Strong problem-solving, innovation, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of mining environmental and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Training / Education requirements: 
  • Degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, or Mineral Processing Engineering
Experience required:
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in extractive metallurgy, with expertise in gold processing (CIL, CIP, gravity, flotation).
  • Proven experience in managing metallurgical teams and optimizing processes.
Language requirement:
  • French and English
