The Project Engineer, reporting to the Project Manager, is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and technical execution of mining projects. Their main mission is to ensure that engineering activities, equipment installations, and infrastructure developments are carried out in compliance with safety standards, technical specifications, environmental regulations, schedule, and budget. They act as a key interface between design teams, contractors, suppliers, and operations to guarantee that project objectives are achieved efficiently and reliably.
Technical Oversight
- Review and validate engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, company guidelines, and environmental regulations.
Project Planning & Control
- Assist in project scheduling, resource planning, and budgeting.
- Monitor project progression and proactively propose corrective measures for deviations.
Stakeholder & Contractor Coordination
- Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers.
- Verify the quality and conformity of delivered equipment and services.
Construction & Site Activities
- Supervise field execution for infrastructure, equipment installation, and commissioning.
- Support resolution of technical issues encountered on site.
- Cost, Risk & Performance Management
- Contribute to cost estimates and financial tracking of the project.
- Identify risks, evaluate impacts, and support mitigation strategies.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare progress reports, technical notes, and meeting summaries for the Project Manager.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and archives.
- Organized with a natural inclination for planning and delivering strategy.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.
- Proficiency is managing budgets, ensuring costs are minimised.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills.
- Problem solving and root cause identification skills
- Strong understanding of construction safety and project execution.
- Strong understanding of project development and execution process flow within the mining industry.
- Strong knowledge of standard industry approach to construction, construction management and contract management.
Profil
Knowledge / Skills & Competencies:
- Competent in the use of MS Project, MS 365 Applications or similar
- Knowledge of resource scheduling software applications.
- Knowledge of Finance – Forecasting and Budgeting software.
Training / Education requirements:
- B.Eng./Diploma Mechanical/Mining/Civil Engineering.
- Current Drivers Licence.
- Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).
Experience required:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining, civil and construction projects, including structures, roads and TSF construction.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Knowledge to manage heavy equipment’s, good IT skills. Awareness of Health and Safety.
