Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Lead the Project team to drive the delivery of the project at logical pace and sequence, within budget and quality targets required to meet implementation deadlines

·         Own the detailed Construction Plan as well as an overall Project Execution Plan

·         Obtain all necessary permits and licenses, required to execute construction activities in accordance with the conditions of the Government of Guinea’s (GoG) permit conditions and the site’s Environmental Management Plan.

·         Determine employee requirements and manage sourcing and allocation of workers to construction sites.

·         Evaluate construction methods and determine cost-effectiveness of plans, using tools, technology and best-in-class methods

·         Respond to engineering inquiries from the field as they arise

·         Responsible for review, scrutiny and if required modification of scheduling project activities and setting work priorities

·         Responsible for a wide range of quality reviews on all forms of project documentation and work-related packages

·         Ensure work that is prepared under your supervision is in strict compliance with all applicable local, state and government legislation and codes, best practice professional engineering standards and detailed engineering calculations, and policies, safety codes and codes of conduct 

·         Develop and maintain a project-specific Health and Safety Plan, and monitor, control and report on project performance as it relates to the planned objectives

·         Ensure Corporate SHEC objectives are embodied in all project design and construction activities

·         Procure, in the most cost-effective way, supplies and materials to complete construction projects

·         Support the implementation of wide processes, systems and practices, specifically relating to safety and construction management

·         Ensure systems are being applied in construction management to control and accurately monitor scope, cost and schedule

·         Ensure appropriate and qualified personnel are in place and organized in an efficient and effective manner to execute construction activities

·         Ensure broad or “out-of-the-box” thinking, and a culture of continuous improvement is allowed to occur with respect to project execution to maximize value

·         Ensure work product quality meets required standards through direct review and/or third-party review

·         Ensure accurate and timely progress information is provided to senior management and the Board in the form of a monthly report

·         Take the lead on the development and review of project execution plans and capital estimates

·         Incorporate an operational readiness plan in the execution of the project, including the procurement of critical spares, setting up a stockholding strategy, and training employees on operational and maintenance requirements

·         Integrate new processing equipment into existing processing equipment without adversely affecting productivity

·         Take responsibility for overall stakeholder management with the objective to incorporate a collaborative management style to satisfy all technical, commercial, financial, and project management functions in the delivery of the project

·         Take the lead at the weekly project Steering Committee meetings and maintain an up-to-date decisions, actions and risk log

·         Present overall project progress at monthly Investment Committee meetings where required

·         Develop a monthly progress report to update the Board of Directors on the progress of major project milestones

·         Ability to lead ExCo governance sessions to prioritise, monitor and challenge progress and status of this most key strategic initiative.

·         Ability to architect and drive through change in a complex, operationally focused environment.

·         Ability to influence and engage senior, geographically and culturally diverse stakeholders moving them toward a common vision or goal for the project.

·         Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.

·         Proficiency is managing budgets, ensuring costs are minimised.

·         Strong report writing and presentation skills.

·         Proven ability to effectively manage resources in direct reporting, indirect reporting and virtual project team structures, including reassessment and reallocation of resources in a dynamic multi-project environment, to achieve optimum results.

·         Ability to manage risks whilst delivering role responsibilities.

·         Problem solving and root cause identification skills

·         Previous leadership experience including experience in managing EPCM type contractors.

·         Strong understanding of construction safety and project execution.

·         Strong understanding of project development and execution process flow within the mining industry.

·         Strong knowledge of standard industry approach to construction, construction management and contract management.

·         Competent in the use of MS Project, MS 365 Applications or similar

·         Knowledge of resource scheduling software applications.

·         Knowledge of Finance – Forecasting and Budgeting software.

 

Training / Education requirements:

·         B.Eng./Diploma Mechanical/Mining/Civil Engineering.

·         Current Drivers Licence.

·         Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).

Experience required:

·         Minimum 20 years’ experience in mining, at least 10 years in mining position, managing large mining civil and construction projects, including structures, roads and TSF construction.

·         Must have relevant international work experience, specifically desired is African and remote site experience.

·         Managing large contractors, subordinates to ensure safety and quality of execution.

·         Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.  Knowledge to manage heavy equipment’s, good IT skills. Awareness of Health and Safety.
