Job Description

Contribution to the development of internal skills:

  • Contribute to the training of project staff in community and social performance, as well as to the planning and implementation of project activities in accordance with all company compliance policies and procedures, World Gold Council principles and best practices in social performance and community relations.
  • To contribute to the continuous improvement of social and community performance practices.
Aligning the project’s actions with national policies
  • Ensure that national and international policies and guidelines are respected when implementing community development initiatives.
  • To provide strategic input and operational management of community development activities, particularly in the areas of health, education, and economic and social development.
Interaction with communities:
  • Develop and implement a communication plan with the communities.
  • Update the list of stakeholders and map them annually.
  • Coordinate interactions between society and local stakeholders, including the local population, traditional leaders, decentralized state services and NGOs.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the resettlement action plan (RAP) and the livelihood restoration plan for populations directly impacted by the project.
  • Coordinate the management of access to land in accordance with the resettlement plan.
  • Coordinate the development of livelihood restoration and resettlement plans for future access to land.
  • Provide training for the community and social performance team.
  • Establish and operationalize the mechanism for monitoring and evaluating social performance and relations with communities.

Contribution to local development:

  • Create frameworks for collaboration with civil society organizations, including NGOs and the private sector, with a view to promoting local development of communities and populations affected by Kouroussa Gold.
  • Working with project teams to implement local strategies, processes and procedures to address community and social performance issues
  • Develop and implement the design and implementation strategy for social responsibility and community compensation projects and value creation projects for gold miners.
  • Establish the budget, estimate costs, control the costs of project initiatives in support of community development.
  • Plan and implement community projects funded using KGM’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) budget.
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual budget for the project’s actions in support of the communities.
  • To monitor the impact of projects financed by mining royalties paid by KGM from the Local Development Fund (FODEL).
Monitor community projects
  • Develop, propose and implement strategies to mitigate risks related to the implementation of community development projects and risks related to stakeholder engagement.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports on work with communities and social performance.

Stakeholder engagement:

  • Coordinate social performance activities and create innovative ideas for working with civil society and the private sector to ensure the social license to operate.
  • Implement the stakeholder engagement plan and the KGM project complaints mechanism.
  • Ensure the identification and analysis of social risks and regularly update the register of social risks in order to put in place an effective mechanism for anticipating actions and initiatives for the guarantee of the social license.
  • Maintain good coexistence relations between the project and the communities surrounding the two permits and all stakeholders.
  • Establish and regularly update stakeholder management tools.
  • Organize quarterly forums with the affected communities.
  • Working with the CCLM to promote consultation and dialogue between KGM and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate consultations between the project and its subcontractors on the one hand, and the communities on the other.
  • Visit affected communities regularly to inform them about mine operations and address questions and concerns raised in accordance with KGM policy.
  • Document all meetings through minutes and attendance lists and update the stakeholder engagement register.
  • Maintain ongoing dialogue with internal and external stakeholders and participate in internal and external meetings on community relations issues.
  • Implement community communication activities, initiatives and forums.
  • To respect and enforce all regulations and legal procedures in force in the Republic of Guinea.
  • Respect and enforce all KGM company policies, procedures, rules and standards.
  • Contribute to reducing company costs by ensuring the plurality of quotations and the development of reference prices for products and services.
  • Develop a practical and effective monthly work schedule to achieve work objectives.

Additional activities:

  • Contribute to baseline, monitoring and evaluation studies to support effective data analysis.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning process of the ESG Department and other relevant departments through the production of relevant information and active participation in planning workshops and forums organized by the company.
  • Perform any other tasks requested by the line manager.
  • To ensure the identification and analysis of social risks and to regularly update the register of social risks in order to establish an effective mechanism for anticipating actions and initiatives to guarantee the social license

Profile

Knowledge  and skills
  • The ability to communicate, engage and work with communities and stakeholders.
  • Experience in delivering training on community and social performance.
  • Skills in community research and consulting activities.
  • Experience in mineral exploration projects.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to develop professional working relationships.
  • Practical knowledge of budget preparation and administration.
  • Skills in employee evaluation, training and motivation.
Training requirements
  • Minimum a master’s degree in social sciences, business administration/economics, international relations or in a related field of sustainable development or demonstrate equivalent experience.
  • Further postgraduate studies (MSc or equivalent) in a relevant field are an asset.
  • Training in the development and implementation of management systems (i.e. ISO or equivalent)
 
Experience required:
  • Have at least 10 years of experience in a similar position,
  • Experience in managing and/or coordinating stakeholder engagement
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary and multicultural teams and in creating a cohesive team function.
  • Experience in the mining sector would be an asset.
  • The candidate must be an excellent speaker and communicator.
Language requirement:
  • Proficiency in French
  • Proficiency in English is a great asset.
  • Proficiency in the Malinke language is mandatory.
