Job Description
Main objectives:
- Ensure that short, medium and long term mining plans are implemented to optimize mine life.
Responsibilities and tasks:
- Develop monthly, quarterly and long term plan at final design stage and preliminary design stage using applicable software,
- Review mine designs and update them as necessary,
- Review planning guidelines and strategies to optimize mining processes,
- Safe and efficient execution of mine planning work.
- Generate short (weekly and monthly), medium (quarterly – half-yearly) and long term (LOM) mine plans,
- Update and revise mine plans as needed,
- Collaborate with the mine engineer, production and mine geologists to ensure smooth operation and achievement of production targets,
- Ensure that the ROM storage strategy is maintained and that the plant is adequately supplied with ore at all times,
- Manage the geotechnical consultant and adopt recommendations for pit slopes and tailings facility design parameters,
- Carry out conceptual mining studies on new ore bodies,
- Supervise the preparation of weekly schedules to meet forecasts,
- Develop short-term schedules and assist production engineers in implementing designs,
- Review life of mine plan costs and develop cut-off grade strategies for ore reserve estimation and ore blocking by geologists,
- Replace the chief mine engineer in his absence.

Training/Education Requirements:
- Hold a mining engineering degree or equivalent,
- Have a good knowledge of mine planning and scheduling software (Geovia Surpac, MineSched and Whittle),
- Proficiency in computer tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, etc.),
- Hold a driving license (category B),
- First aid certificate (desirable).
Experience required:
- Have at least 8 years of experience in a similar position, preferably in open-pit mining,
- Underground mining experience is an advantage
- Ability to maintain or exceed industry best practices in all mining engineering related tasks,
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices,
- Experience in long-term mine planning,
- Experience in production and planning in an open-air environment,
- Understanding of geotechnical engineering,
- Knowledge of selective open-pit mining techniques and equipment used.
Language requirement:
- Official language: French
- Local language: Bambara
- Ability to speak and write in English.
